I'm thinking of sending death threats to the local weather guys. It's 17 today....ow that's the high. Sure those of you up North are saying that's not so bad. Ya know what...I'm a wuss OK!!! I ran 8 miles Yesterday giving me 74 for the week (it was -2 at the time) 334 miles thus far on this program. I'll be in the 80's + the rest of the way to taper... Yesterday was the Bridal EXpo that we put on at work. I got stuck as a model. I did however get several of the girls from the team to model wedding dresses (I wore a tux, just to make that clear). They had fun. It was a tough sell to a bunch of teenage girls to have their hair done, their makeup done, and get to play model in front of about 1000 people. Funny thing though was that they gave Katie the wrong sized dress and it wanted to fall off. I had to excort her out with one arm behind my back holding her dress up. With her parents in the front row it's best that her dress not fall off... It was a warm up for me since my brother is getting married next weekend. It doesn't look good for the weather for the rest of the week. COLD, COLD, and COLD with a snowy mix....
SOOO...I'm driving to WIsconsin tonight...you know because it's not cold enough here. (Actually it's to see my in laws) A week from tomorrow is the Huff. Since Aarron is out for next weekend I'm watching the weather in Huntington closely since I think that I will be running the event as an individaul. The race is listed as a 50K but the laps are 10.6 miles each (hun thats not 31 miles) so it's more like 32 miles. The course is trails and if the weathers bad the trails will be a MESS. They were last year. In fact I hurt my leg there last year in the mud. So I'm really watching the weather.
I'm recovering from last nights workout. 10 x 1000 meters. It was a five minute cycle and I ran 3:05-3:07 on all but the first couple (us old people have to get warmed up). Anyway I was pleased to hold sub 5:00 pace for the workout. I haven't done that kind of workout since i was in college. Most workouts now a days are decending sets and either long recoverys on the fast stuff or race pace with short recovers. Youth is wasted on the young...lol
Anyway Merry Christmas everyone.
Dutterman (Denny) and I hit the track last night for some 6-3 combos. Let me explain. A 6-3 Combo is a 600 meter (faster than race pace) followed by a minute recovery, followed by a 300 meter (like running a 400) then you jog a lap (2:30 recovery) and start the next set. We went to do 6 but ran out of light (it was hard to find the marks on the track in the dark) so we cut it short at 5. It was a good workout and I'm sore today. It was good to get out of the marathon groove that I run so much of the time. The weather looks up for the next few days (back to 50's and 60's, it was 41 during our workout last night) so It should be some good training weather. If you in the midwest enjoy it for now cause I'm sure it won't stick around.
This is my favorite time of the year. The time between Labor Day and Halloween is the best time of year here in the midwest. The temperature breaks (or will eventually). The leaves change. There's just something about it. The cross country team I help coach had a rough weekend and despite the subpar race, still managed to finish 6th in the prestate meet. I'm proud of how tough they raced (several had been sick all week). It was a good to see them race that tough despite not being 100%. (in fact we didn't even have all 7 of our varsity runners there, 2 of the freshman really stepped up and helped out). Hopefully everyone gets a chance to enjoy the fall, best wishes.
Ok it was my 97 minutes tonight that finished off a 90 mile week. I tried to run my long run this morning but after 5 miles I decided to wait until tonight to finish off my 19 for the day (WAY to hot). I've got 10 days or so until my mini taper for the Ragnar relays. It is going to be a hot one this week so it may be a tough next 10 days. I think we will be hitting 100 on Wednesday, and here in the humid midwest 100 is nasty. So for all you midwesterners (and everyone else for that matter) stay safe and drink plenty of fluids.
