I have 13 weeks until the ORRRC Marathon on March 29th. That means 11 weeks of training and 2 weeks of taper before the big show. Anyway, between now and then I'll be posting my training. My weeks Monday to Sunday. Sunday being my long day. I also typically do a 12 miler following my first workout each week. This time of the year my workouts and midweek long run vary by weather conditions. Since my training is based off a 10 week program (10 weeks proceeding the taper) this week is just a milage week. I will get back to workouts next week. My workouts vary from pace change and AT (Lactic Threshhold traing) to some very race specific workouts. As I go along I'll post my progress. As for this week...
Monday - 10 miles (45 degrees, light rain)
Tuesday- 9 miles (18 degrees, snow/ 30 mph wiind)
Wednesday- 9 miles (9 degrees, -3 wind chill)
Don't worry I'll keep you posted on my random thoughts and opinions... I know you were worried.
Today for the second week in a row we hit the trails at Hawthorn Park for 8 x 1000 in helping Mike Urban in his preperation for the Indy Mini in 2 weeks. Mike averaged 3:27-3:28 for the workout and is primed to break 1:23 in 2 weeks. Keep in mind that at this time last year a pelvic stress fracture side lined for 6 months (with no cross training). So Mike's bounced back well and is on his way to a big finish in Indy. The workout was the perfect pace for my preperation for the Madison Marathon in 5 weeks and coming off my venture into the ultra world I feel really good about my base. Also I learned a lot more about taking on gels and water early in a race and keeping my energy up throughout the race. There's a product called Honey Stingers on the market now that I'm big on. The texture is much better than that of the gels and the sweetness requires just a quick chase of some water. Keep running and stay safe.
Having done 2 ultras in the last month put into a stand still on racing. Yesterday my wife (the lovely young lady in my picture with me) officially took me off. She was hoping to get to run the Kentucky Derby Marathon on the 28th of April. Since she is finishing up grad school and can't race that weekend, we are now headed to the Mad City Marathon. I haven't been to downtown Madison Wisconsin in 10 years (though we drive by there on the way to my in-laws) which is shame since Madison is a great town. It looks like I'll be heading back there on May 27th now. Tonight however was my first workout in 4 months and even though I was only helping Mike Urban get raedy for his race at the Indy Mini in a few weeks, it was good to strech the legs out some. We did 8 X 1000 on the trails at Hawthorn since it was 38 degrees and windy. The weather finally looks like it's going to turn around here in Indiana. The race that I am involved in putting on in June is coming together nicely. Check out the race site www.hawthornhalfdayrelay.com. I'll post my prep for the marathon next month and let you know how I plan to apply to things I learned in my ultras to my marathon plan. Happy running everyone.
