I keep waiting for things to slow down. Hopefully that will happen after next week. Tomorrow is the Semi-State here in Indiana and we are looking to make another trip to the state finals. The girls are finally tapering this week, but we are likely going to be short a runner for tomorrows race. We are losing a 20:05 (5K) girl for this weekend but it is in hopes that she will be able to return to the line up for next week. With 8 girls that can break 21:00 we are still capable of getting out and it's really not worth risking a serious injury for. So our hopes have to be that the taper works and the whole team runs well. Hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather. I'll be getting back to doing some racing of my own in a couple weeks (The workouts are going well) so I'll keep you posted.
Are you kidding...I think I missed summer. Well it's still 90 here but I can't believe it's October. Let me catch you up. Last week was the week from hell...the hard drive on lap top went out and I still can't find my keys so we'll just leave it at that. Wednesday night was the Conference meet for the team I help with. The girls finished 3rd as a team (behind the #3 and #4 ranked teams in the state). We were just 10 points out of 2nd and we really felt like they are beatable. We had 2 girls make the All MIC team and our top freshman just missed being All Conference. I'm back training hard again (I've had some knee soarness since the big relay over a month ago). I had been running but I had been keeping it limited, so Monday's 1000 meter repeats was a shock to the system after over a month with nothing fast. Enjoy the fall everyone and enjoy the nice days before they're gone.
Same thing we do every night Pinky...try to take over the world!!! That's an off the wall Pinky and the Brain reference for those who don't know that cartoon. The only thing I've been doing the last few nights is stripping wall paper. Seems the people who owned our house before us REALLY liked wall paper. However, last night was the County Championship for the cross country team I help with. It wasn't much of a race, we are the #16 team in the state and the other 2 school are not very good. We scored 20 points, in fact we finished 1-3-4-5-7-8-9-10 and we have 2 girls out right now. This week we found out that Erin however will not be back this season. One of our promising freshman began having chest pains during races a few weeks back. The doctors cleared her to run after an EKG but when she tried to race again it got worse. We told her that unless something changes that we would not allow her to race again this year. (I think her dad would have made the same statement had we not said it first, but her health is a lot more important than a couple races) Hopefully everyone is getting a chance to go enjoy the fall like weather. Have fun.
This is my favorite time of the year. The time between Labor Day and Halloween is the best time of year here in the midwest. The temperature breaks (or will eventually). The leaves change. There's just something about it. The cross country team I help coach had a rough weekend and despite the subpar race, still managed to finish 6th in the prestate meet. I'm proud of how tough they raced (several had been sick all week). It was a good to see them race that tough despite not being 100%. (in fact we didn't even have all 7 of our varsity runners there, 2 of the freshman really stepped up and helped out). Hopefully everyone gets a chance to enjoy the fall, best wishes.
